Introduction
The Afri-CAN Charity is registered in South Africa. We are a social venture charity, we believe in long term sustainable philanthropy. Our focus is on the alleviation of poverty in the townships of South Africa. We start at the beginning because children can’t wait, by providing Early Childhood Development Centres (ECDs). We provide new facilities, we provide free school breakfasts and we provide school uniforms for the children typically under six years old.
At each of our new ECD’s we provide teacher training and we facilitate the creation of new businesses 100% owned by the teachers.
UNICEF confirms that the development of children is compromised when they are born into extreme poverty when they lack food and nutrition or quality early childhood education. We support the most vulnerable young children in the townships of South Africa at the right stage of their development by providing nutrition, sanitation, safety and trained teachers. 60% of South Africa’s poorest 20% of children do not currently attend any form of nursery or ECD. By providing quality ECD services in partnership with the women of the townships we are breaking the negative cycle of inequality and poverty to develop their full potential.
In addition to the Afri-CAN charity’s ECD program, we provide training and full time employment at the Afri-CAN Cafes in townships of South Africa where unemployment can run as high as 80%. We convert and brand disused shipping containers into cafes. The Afri-CAN Cafe company is 100% owned by The Afri-CAN Charity and is dedicated to providing training and full time employment where it’s needed most.
The Afri-CAN Charity is run by experienced international NGO officers working across the world in many sectors. They are specialists in maximising impact.

Mission
To create and nurture an organization that empowers people in the poorest communities in South Africa to harness their own potential for personal growth and prosperity at the same time as helping the youngest and most vulnerable in their respective communities. We do this by creating cafes from converted shipping containers and instilling professional, commercial and socially responsible values ensuring long term sustainability.
